The Free State Trail Runs consist of 100 Kilometer, 40 Mile, and a marathon, all on the muddy, messy trails of the Clinton Lake State Park in Lawrence, Kansas.

This fun little trail marathon is held in the White Clay Creek State Park trail system in Newark, Delaware, one of the best trail networks on the east coast. The full marathon is two loops, and the other races are one loop. It's singletrack with one really nasty climb. There are also two creek/river (depending on rain) crossings per loop that can go up to your hips (or higher).

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, and 5K commemorates the victims and survivors of the terrorist attack against the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The race is a fundraiser for the Oklahoma City Memorial.

The race starts with a moment of silence to remember the victims of the bombing.

This unique run takes place at night in the high desert of Nevada, 2 and a half hours from Las Vegas. You get to run by Area-51 on the Extraterrestrial Highway to the "Little A'le'Inn" in Rachel Nevada, just in time for breakfast there and a bus ride back to Vegas.

The Buckeye Marathon, 50 Mile, 100k, and 100 Mile Runs have an interesting format - 500 meter laps that switch directions every 2 hours. The 100 Mile run starts Saturday morning at 6am, and the other races start in the evening to stay out of the heat. All races end Sunday at noon, making this a great opportunity to get a 100K or 50 mile finish - 18 and 17 hours respectively.

This race has a very interesting format - the race starts at noon and runs for 9 hours and 11 minutes to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack. If you're interested in a marathon, they have a certified number of laps for a marathon.

The Midsouth Marathon and Half is a small, rural marathon held in Cross County. The people of Wynne will treat you like family if you come out and run their full marathon or half marathon.

The Outer Banks Marathon and Half Marathon are both point-to-point races that start on the Outer Banks barrier islands and finish in Manteo, North Carolina! The toughest part of both races will be the Washington-Baum bridge four miles from the finish in Manteo, so save a gel for mile 22 or 9.

Held just outside of Newark, Delaware in the Fair Hill Natural Area, these minimal-support runs take place at the beginning of the year when the trails are either snowy, icy, muddy, or all three!

The P. F. Chang's Rock and Roll Arizona Marathon is now one of several winter marathons in the Valley of the Sun, but it's still the biggest and best attended marathon and half marathon in Phoenix. In 2010, they offered a 50K option with Dean Karnazes - it's not clear whether they'll do something similar in 2011.

In 2010, this race was canceled due to snow on the course. This race should be back in 2011, though.

The Umstead Trail Marathon is held on the singletrack and bridle trails of Umstead State Park outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. The famous Umstead 100-mile endurance race is held in the same state park, but on just the rolling bridle trails, which are more like dirt roads. The singletrack is all early in the race, so don't waste a lot of energy trying to pass people in the first six miles - you'll just burn up. Wait until you can pass on the bridle trails.

This out-and-back marathon course goes through the famous Red Rocks west of Las Vegas in the Spring mountains on the scenic drive. Half Marathoners only do the loop one-way, but marathoners get to go up and come back down twice.

Ready for the first wedding-themed marathon? Jeff Linwood and Cheri Woldt (who run this web site) are getting married in March 2011, and they want to celebrate by throwing a trail marathon the day before their wedding. The trail is easy, forgiving singletrack, perfect for first-time trail runners and walkers.

The Arbuckles to Ardmore Race for Mercy marathon, half marathon, and 5K goes through a very scenic part of Oklahoma between Dallas and Oklahoma City.
