Glacier National Park has much more to see than glaciers. The park is in the northern Rocky Mountains of Montana, up against the Canadian border. The highlight of the park for most visitors is the Going-to-the-Sun road, famous for its mountain viewpoints and stunning lakes. This road is only open in the peak of the summer - earlier visitors will find portions of the road closed, although they may be bikable. Riding your bike on the Going-to-the-Sun road with no other traffic on it is one of the best experiences you can have in the national park system on two wheels. Grizzly bears and black bears inhabit the park, and lucky visitors may see them from a distance. Mountain goats are much more common, and have a tendency to approach cars. Hiking in the park will get you away from the crowds who only came to drive the Going-to-the-Sun road, and backcountry camping will get you even further away. Two chalets in the backcountry let hikers spend the night in the backcountry without bringing a tent with them. Try and spend a couple of days in this park - along with North Cascades National Park in Washington, it is one of the best mountain national parks in the United States.
