| Virgin Islands National Park, VI | 0 Reviews/Comments |
In the Caribbean Ocean, the island of St. John in the Virgin Islands contains Virgin Islands National Park. The park covers half of the island and much of the ocean surrounding the island.
The national park preserves beaches, coral reefs, tropical rain forests, and wetlands. An entire island vacation can be organized around activities in the park. The park is famous for its 20 hiking trails, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, and just relaxing on the beach.
Virgin Islands National Park can be very expensive to visit, because of limited lodging options. The best option for budget travel is the Cinnamon Bay Campground - if you bring your own tent, camp sites are $30, which is only a little above mainland national park sites in the busiest parks. For less of a DIY adventure, you can reserve a cottage or a standing tent in Cinnamon Bay. Maho Bay is another option, a private campground with Tent Cottages. There are several resorts on St. John, such as the Westin or Caneel Bay that offer a more luxury experience, but at corresponding prices.
