Running in Dallas really centers around White Rock Lake as the best place to run for 9 miles uninterrupted. That's not the only place to run in Dallas - the Katy Trail is also very popular, as is Bachman Lake, and the White Rock Creek Trail. Not only is White Rock Lake a popular training area, but it's also the focus of the big Dallas marathon, the White Rock Marathon in December.
Like the other big Texas cities, running in Dallas is really taking off, especially at the half-marathon distance. The Rock and Roll Dallas Half Marathon in March and the America's Run in April (in Arlington) were both new in 2010, and will become huge events.
Dallas White Rock is the largest marathon in the city, in early December. The course recently changed for the 2010 version of the race, along with the start and finish venues, so take that into account when you read comments about earlier versions of the race.
The city will be a lot more green in April, and it looks like the new White Rock Marathon course might be very similar to the Big D Marathon course as well - starting in Fair Park and heading out to White Rock Lake.
The Big D marathon in April is well attended, but can be hot.
