Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail

One of the most interesting trails in the Las Vegas area is the least natural. The Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail in Lake Mead Recreational Area goes from its trailhead by the Lake Mead NRA entry gate to the Hoover Dam parking garage.

River Mountains Loop Trail

Southern Nevada now has an amazing set of trails for hiking, running, mountain biking, and in some places, horseback riding. The River Mountains Loop Trail is a 35 mile long trail that loops around the River Mountain Range, connecting the Alan Bible Visitor Center in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Henderson, Boulder City, Railroad Pass, and the Hoover Dam.

Sunset Park Duck Pond Loop Trail

This jogging trail around a man-made pond is a mile long loop that gives you a nice view of the duck pond inside Sunset Park. Sunset Park is close to the airport and not too far from Strip hotels if you're looking for a relaxed place to jog a few miles in Vegas.

Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop

This 13 mile scenic drive is a classic for running or road biking. It's beautiful but tough! If you're from out of town and looking for a place to get in a run or a ride, this has to be number one on your list of places to go around Vegas because of the scenery.

Flamingo Arroyo Trail

The Flamingo Arroyo Trail will cross the Las Vegas metropolitan area in the wash, as part of a system of 120 miles of non-motorized asphalt trails to be added in Clark County.

The Pittman Wash Trail is 4 miles of pavement, starting at the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex.

When is the major marathon?:

Competitor Events puts on the Rock N Roll Vegas Marathon in early December - this is the biggest marathon in Vegas by a long shot, all the others take place miles outside the city. This is a love it or hate it event, you can do it in an Elvis suit or get married in a group ceremony partway through.

Calico Racing is a local company that puts on very unique road races in Southern Nevada - for instance, you could run at night with a glowing necklace on the Extraterrestrial Highway, or you could do a brutal 50-mile run out at Lake Mead on the road in July. Run along a rails-to-trails trail on pavement and hard-packed dirt over Lake Mead at the Six Tunnels to Hoover Dam Half Marathon in March. The course is basically flat. The race goes from the Alan Bible Visitor Center at Lake Mead National Recreation Area to the Hoover Dam Overlook and passes through six railroad tunnels in each direction

This unique run takes place at night in the high desert of Nevada, 2 and a half hours from Las Vegas. You get to run by Area-51 on the Extraterrestrial Highway to the "Little A'le'Inn" in Rachel Nevada, just in time for breakfast there and a bus ride back to Vegas.
