Oklahoma City Running

Oklahoma City has all four seasons, so running in Oklahoma City is really dependent on the weather.

When is the major marathon?:

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is the big marathon in April, followed by the much smaller, lower-key Andy Payne marathon in May. If you're looking for a fall/winter marathon, you'll have to go to Tulsa for the Route 66 Marathon in November or to Dallas for the White Rock Marathon in December. The Spirit of Survival Marathon in southwest Oklahoma has now switched formats and locations, and is no longer the same event. In March, the Arbuckles to Ardmore Race for Mercy marathon is a new, excellent event located south of Oklahoma City near Chickasaw National Recreation Area and Turner Falls.

Where can I get a running event schedule?:

The Landrunners running club has a nice calendar - http://www.okcrunning.org/landrunners/Events/EventsWholeYear.htm

The Andy Payne Marathon is a much smaller marathon than the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, and is usually held on Memorial Day weekend. In 2010, the race was split - 5K and 10K on Saturday, Half Marathon and Marathon on Sunday. This is a really hot time to run in Oklahoma, so be very prepared for hot conditions.

In its second year, 24 The Hard Way is a timed race held on two different courses at Bluff Creek Park at the same time. 24 The Hard Way is held on a 1-mile paved loop, and is a road race, and the Double Dirty Dozen is held on a 1 mile singletrack trail loop at the same location.

This means your road running friends and your trail running friends can get together and run for 24 hours in the same place!
