The North Shore Trail on Lake Grapevine is the best mountain biking trail in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The trail is an 18-mile round trip on singletrack, and 5 miles each way of the single track is one-way. Only 4 miles of the trail are shared out-and-back, making the tight turns on this trail much easier to negotiate.
Directions given here are to the MADD Shelter, which is a good starting point for both mountain biking and trail running.
The trails are open to mountain bikers, trail runners, hikers, and dog walkers, and it's a favorite for residents in Grapevine and Flower Mound, or for guests of the nearby Gaylord Resort Hotel in Grapevine.
Mountain bikers (through DORBA) maintain and create most of the trail here, and they use the trail very heavily. If you're after a relaxing walk through nature, try during a weekday when there will be less traffic on the trails. The North Texas Trail Runners also use this trail heavily - their club race, the Rockledge Rumble, is staged on the Northshore Trail.
Access to the trail is at three parks - Rockledge Park (Jackson Pavilion), Murrell Park (MADD Shelter), and Twin Coves Park. Each park has drinking water from water fountains, and Rockledge and Murrell have bathrooms.
Like other trails in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the trail will close if there has been rain. Check the DORBA trail conditions page before heading out there.
For much more information about the trail, visit the DORBA Northshore Trail page or the North Texas Trail Runners Northshore Trail page.
